SEND & Inclusion

At The Heatons Preschool Group, we are committed to providing robust SEND support. We have several qualified Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCOs) across our settings. Their role as SENCO is dedicated to supporting children’s individual needs, collaborating closely with families to understand each child’s unique circumstances, and working with external agencies to develop and implement tailored support plans and interventions. This collaborative approach ensures that children with SEND receive the right resources and guidance, fostering an inclusive environment where every child can reach their full potential.

Our Approach to Inclusion

We work closely with families and specialists to ensure every child receives the right support at the right time.

Individual Support Plans

We create personalised support plans tailored to each child's unique needs, goals and learning style.

Experienced Practitioners

Our team receives ongoing training in early years SEND support, keeping practice current and compassionate.

Partnership with Parents

We believe collaboration with families is essential. Your knowledge of your child shapes everything we do.

External Specialist Support

We work with local authorities and professionals when additional guidance is needed for your child.

How We Support Every Child

Observe

Our skilled practitioners observe and track each child's development with fresh eyes every day, noticing strengths, preferences, and any emerging areas for support, without labels or assumptions.

Plan

We create personalised support plans in partnership with families and advice from Early Years specialists. Through an 'Assess, Plan, Do, Review' cycle, we set meaningful, achievable targets tailored to each child's unique journey.

Support

Support is woven naturally into the daily routine. Whether that's adapted resources, specialist sessions, or additional 1:1 time, children receive help in the way that suits them best.

Review

We regularly review progress together with parents, celebrating every milestone, however small, and adjusting strategies so support always keeps pace with each child's evolving needs.

We have multiple SENCOs across both nurseries to ensure that we can quickly identify any additional support a child may need, and implement this efficiently during their crucial early years, to ensure the best outcomes for each child. We have strong relationships with our local Early Years SEN support team, and seek advice from professionals such as Health Visitor, Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists to ensure we offer the best support for the children in our care. Our SENCOs have completed a DfE accredited SENCO qualification and take part in ongoing Continuous Professional Development to deepen their knowledge and understanding of SEN and Inclusive Practice.

Please speak to your nursery manager or child’s key worker if you wish to discuss your child’s development with your nursery SENCO.

Every Child Belongs Here

Inclusion is a very important part of what we do. We are committed to creating a community where every child is celebrated, every family is supported, and every voice is heard. Whatever your child’s needs, they have a place here.
