Are you eligible?
- Both parents (or the sole parent in a single-parent family) must be working and earning at least the equivalent of 16 hours per week at National Minimum Wage (about £183 per week from April 2025), but less than £100,000 per year each.
- Parents on certain types of leave (maternity, paternity, adoption, sick, or annual leave) or receiving specific benefits (like Carer’s Allowance) may also qualify
- If you are self-employed or on a zero-hours contract, you may still be eligible if you meet the earnings threshold
- Some exceptions apply for foster parents and families with additional needs.

What's Covered by government funding
- The Government Funding covers up to 30 hours of high-quality, flexible childcare with registered providers (nurseries, preschools, childminders, some after-school and holiday clubs) each week, term time only.
- It does not cover extras such as meals, nappies, additional hours outside the funded period, or extra activities (like trips). Therefore providers may charge a consumables fee to cover these additional costs.
When Is My Child Eligible For Funding?
- Your child becomes eligible the term after they turn 9 months old (from September 2025).
- For example, if your child turns 9 months between January and March, you can access the funding from the term starting on or after 1 April; if between April and August, from September; and if between September and December, from January.
Consumables fee: £22.50 is charged per full funded day session to cover meals, non-food consumables, and additional activities and classes.
